How do you keep bugs and deer from eating my herbs and orange tree from my patio?

I have a small herb garden and a dwarf orange tree and I want to know if there are any organic methods for keeping the bugs and deer away. Also, I bought a miracle fruit tree which is an indoor tree and I don’t know how to keep it from dying completely. Right now it only has half the tree with dry leaves. I water once to twice a week depending on weather, but try to keep it moist without causing root rot. It has not grown since I bought it 2 months ago.
