What is the orange colored bar classified as other on my itouch?

On my ipod touch, when plugged into a computer in itunes, an orange bar classsified as other, is taking up 1.27 gb. What is it and how do i get rid of it. And its not apps or photos
But would the email and calculater and stuff really take up 1.27 gigabites
